At Memorial Hospital's Rural Health Clinics, Dr. Zachary Orme, D.O. believes healthcare is about more than treating illness, it's about building relationships, helping patients reach their goals, and providing support through every stage of life. We sat down with Dr. Orme to learn more about what inspires his work, his approach to patient care, and what patients can expect when they visit him.
What inspired you to become a family doctor?
During college, I enjoyed studying nutrition and other pre-medical sciences. As I progressed through medical school, I had the opportunity to work in many different healthcare settings and discovered that family medicine allowed me to bring together all the aspects of care I enjoyed most.
What do you enjoy most about caring for patients in a rural community?
The continuity of care. I may see a patient in the clinic, care for them in the hospital, or encounter them in the emergency department. That continuity allows for deeper relationships and a better understanding of each patient's overall health journey.
How would you describe your approach to patient care?
Holistic and centered on shared decision-making. I believe patients should be active participants in their healthcare. My role is to provide guidance, education, and recommendations while helping patients make informed choices that align with their individual goals and values.
Healthcare works best when it is a partnership.
What can patients expect during their first visit with you?
We'll have a detailed discussion about your past medical history, current health concerns, and most importantly, your goals for the future.
I want patients to leave feeling heard, understood, and confident that we have a plan moving forward together.
What areas of family medicine are you especially passionate about?
I'm passionate about preventive care and addiction medicine. Helping patients avoid health problems before they start can have a tremendous impact on long-term quality of life.
I also find addiction medicine meaningful because it allows me to help patients navigate complex challenges while supporting them in achieving lasting improvements in their health and well-being.
Why is preventive care so important?
Prevention often starts with the basics: eating real, nutritious foods, getting enough sleep, and exercising regularly. Small habits practiced consistently can make an enormous difference over time.
What do you wish more patients understood about their health?
Early recognition and prevention matter.
The more proactive patients can be with their health, the more opportunities we have to keep them healthy for the long term.
How do you help patients feel comfortable discussing sensitive or personal concerns?
I try to make sure patients feel heard and understood. Taking the time to listen and validate their concerns helps create an environment where patients feel comfortable talking openly about their health.
How do you help patients take an active role in their care?
I focus on informed decision-making. When patients understand their health conditions and treatment options, they're better equipped to make choices that support their goals.
What's one health tip you find yourself giving most often?
Regular exercise is one of the most important things people can do for their health. It benefits nearly every part of the body and can help improve physical health, mental well-being, energy levels, and overall quality of life.
How do you stay up to date with new medical knowledge?
I'm always reading and seeking out new information daily to stay current and provide the best possible care for my patients.

What do you enjoy doing outside of medicine?
I enjoy hiking, camping, traveling, and motorcycles. Spending time outdoors and exploring new places helps me recharge and maintain balance outside of work.
What makes you excited to serve patients at Memorial's Rural Health Clinics?
I appreciate the close-knit atmosphere at Memorial. There's a genuine commitment to patient care, teamwork, and supporting our community, and I'm excited to be part of that mission.
What's one thing you want every patient to know about you?
I'm eager to help you reach your health goals. Whether you're looking to improve your overall wellness, manage a chronic condition, or address a new concern, I'm committed to providing guidance, support, and care.
