Monroe Randolph Transit District's Chester Loop Makes Getting Around Easy

Bus stops in front of Memorial Hospital and the Medical Office Building every 45 minutes.

The next time you see a BUS STOP sign, think of it as your gateway to healthcare, shopping, essential services, and greater independence.

The Monroe Randolph Transit District (MRTD) created the Chester Loop as part of its mission to provide safe, reliable, and affordable public transportation while helping remove transportation barriers that can make it difficult for residents to access healthcare, employment, shopping, and other everyday needs.

For just $1 per trip, riders can travel throughout Chester using MRTD's convenient fixed-route service. Transit's Chester Loop operates Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., with the bus returning approximately every 45 minutes to designated stops along the route.

Chester Loop Schedule as of 7-15-2026

Unlike MRTD's reservation-based transportation services, the Chester Loop functions much like a traditional city bus route. Riders simply locate a designated bus stop, check the schedule, and board when the bus arrives, no reservation or advance scheduling required.

Transit is Connecting Chester's Key Destinations

Chester presents unique transportation challenges, with two major highways running through the community and many areas lacking easy pedestrian access.

The Chester Loop helps bridge those gaps by providing convenient access to important destinations throughout the city.

Stops include locations near:

  • Chester Center

  • Hardee's

  • Randolph County Courthouse

  • Memorial Hospital and Medical Office Building

  • Chester Clinic

  • Walmart

  • Randolph County Health Department

The Chester Loop offers an affordable and dependable way to get to where you need to go.

More Affordable Transportation Options

The Chester Loop is just one way MRTD helps keep communities connected. MRTD also operates a Sparta Loop, which runs Monday through Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Need to travel beyond Chester or Sparta?

MRTD offers transportation to local communities for only $3, providing another affordable option for regional travel.

For trips that require a specific pickup and destination, MRTD's demand-response service makes scheduling simple. Riders can reserve a trip by calling 618-443-9087 at least 24 hours in advance.

Fares remain affordable:

  • $6 for trips within the same county

  • $8 for trips between Monroe and Randolph counties
